In my journey to publication, many people have inspired me to reach further and take scary leaps of faith to make my dreams a reality, and today’s spotlight author is one of the greats. Author, coach, and inspirational speaker, Honorée Corder is one of those people you can’t help but listen to, because you can hear the determination and wisdom in her voice.
The first time I heard her speak was on Joanna Penn’s Creative Penn podcast; as soon as the podcast was over, I looked her up, signed up for her newsletter, and started reading her books. Her writing style is friendly, conversational, and uplifting – but more than that, she has a lot of knowledge to share. That’s why I asked her to let me pick her brain for this blog, and she very kindly agreed.
Honorée, tell us about yourself.
I am the author of 18 books, including Prosperity for Writers: A Writer’s Guide to Creating Abundance, Prosperity for Writers Productivity Journal, Business Dating: Applying Relationship Rules in Business for Ultimate Success, and Vision to Reality: How Short Term Massive Action Equals Long Term Maximum Results, If Divorce is a Game, These are the Rules, The Divorced Phoenix, as well as The Successful Single Mom book series, The Successful Single Dad, Play2Pay, Paying4College, and Tall Order!
My mission is to inspire and motivate people to turn their vision and dreams into their real-life reality. I do this by sharing processes I created first for myself and eventually for my coaching clients, audiences and readers.
I also do a bit of public speaking, and I’m Hal Elrod’s business partner in The Miracle Morning book series.
Who do you write for?
My target audience is the avatar I define for each book/book series.
I wrote The Succesful Single Mom book series specifically to target the challenges I faced as a single mom – that I know other single moms face every day! My business books are for business folks who want to get the most out of their days, lives, and careers. My divorced books are for those going through a divorce, and even those who are divorced and wondering what the heck happens next!
How many books do you plan for the Successful Single Mom/Dad series?
The single mom series is complete with six books, and The Successful Single Dad is a standalone.
What kind of research did you do for your latest book, The Divorced Phoenix? How did you know there was a need for that book?
The research I did was my own personal experience, and of course I have spoken with dozens, if not hundreds of other divorced individuals over the years.
I knew there was a need for that book because I was answering the many questions the book answers, such as How do I forgive my ex? How do I move on? Will I always feel sad/angry/miserable? How long does this post-divorce phase last?
These questions helped me to realize that If Divorce is a Game, These are the Rules only helped people to divorce with grace and dignity, but not to define what they wanted their new lives to look like after divorce.
I understand that you started out as a coach and a speaker. Tell us why you started writing books, and how it has helped you achieve more success in your coaching and speaking work.
Mark Victor Hansen, who you’ll know as the co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, suggested I write a book to increase my credibility and speaking/coaching fees.
I now believe every professional would benefit from writing a book from their place of expertise, which they would use not only as their business card, but also to increase their platform and visibility.
I think every amazing thing that’s happened to me over the past dozen years is because I started writing books.
Are you working on a new book now?
I’m pretty much always working on a new book (smile), and today I’m working on the next book in The Prosperous Writer series.
Tell us about the Miracle Morning series.
The Miracle Morning is a process that can serve as the foundation for anyone’s success, and when I read the book I absolutely loved it. I wrote a review for the book, and Hal reached out (as a result of seeing the Single Mom series) and it didn’t take long for us to determine we could partner and do books for various niche audiences.
As Hal’s business partner, my job is to help the co-authors complete, publish and launch their book. So far, we’ve published The Miracle Morning for Real Estate Agents, The Miracle Morning for Salespeople, and The Miracle Morning for Network Marketers. Next up are The Miracle Morning for Writers and The Miracle Morning for Parents.
I love doing these books, because each one helps people not only create a morning practice that supports their goals and dreams, our co-authors are successful people in each niche and they share their best practices for how to be the best in that particular profession or area. It’s very cool.
What fuels your writing?
I have an internal mission: to leave everyone and everything better than I find them. I love helping people, it’s one of my favorite things in life.
My writing is a way I can reach lots and lots of people, because there are no limitations to where a book can end up or go. When I figure out a solution to anything, I like to write about it and always hope it finds it’s way into the hands of the person who needs it at just the right time.
Tell us about your writing hideout.
I have learned to write anywhere, anytime. I prefer a specific spot on my couch, on my laptop – but I’ve been known to write in coffee shops, guest bedrooms, hotel rooms, and even in my car on my iPad while my husband is driving. As long as I’m writing, I’m happy.
