As I’ve done for a few weeks now, I tasked myself with choosing my favorite short story or flash fiction story for the previous week.
My latest pick is short… but not that sweet.
Heads I Win by Tara R. is a short tale that brings to mind the fickle quality of reality and the impermanence of our lives.
Careful not to read my comments before you read the story; spoilers may lurk within. You’ve been warned.
This is one of those stories that makes you think, but if you think too hard on it, it’ll make your head hurt. And that’s exactly why I’m recommending it.
It’s short, to the point, and makes you wonder about what will happen next longer than you actually read the story.
To come upon something that should not yet exist is the start of many great sci-fi stories – and some really terrible horror stories. I wonder which one this would be if it kept going?
If you read all this way and didn’t read the stories first, shame on you – but go read the stories now. You won’t regret it.
