I love story prompt challenges for how they force me to write tight prose and full stories with a spare few words. I also love them because they give me a chance to read the stories of other writers who are pushing themselves, too, to the limits of their abilities.
I’ve been choosing a story a week to recommend to my awesome readers for a few weeks now. Here’s my pick for the past week. (Better late than never, right?)
Okay, so, I’m supposed to choose just one story, but this week… I couldn’t. Here are the two that kept my attention long after I was finished reading them.
Story Link #1
Dillan’s Desire by Brenna Faye can be summed up in two words: carnival cannibals.
Story Link #2
To Each Their Own by H.C. Daria brings new meaning to the words “individual tastes.”
Careful not to read my comments before you read the story; spoilers may lurk within. You’ve been warned.
My Thoughts
Cannibals! Carnivals! Apocalypse!
There’s nothing I don’t love about these two stories.
The first is the story of a young man on a search for his missing family. The catch? He’s part of a family of cannibals sentenced to a life of servitude in a perverse carnival.
The second tells the tale of a woman with a set of unique physical attributes that make her well-suited in a post-apocalyptic, meat-centric freak show. It’s even more fun than it sounds.
If you read all this way and didn’t read the stories first, shame on you – but go read the stories now. You won’t regret it.
